Cycling for flowers around the world

Spring is known to be the season of new beginnings, so why not make this spring the beginning of a new hobby? We have decided to offer a helping hand and propose a fun activity which is perfect for people who have a passion for either cycling, traveling or just nature in general. Cycling for flowers can be an exciting activity or just a relaxing hobby.

So, now only one problem remains. Where exactly should you go in order to take in all the elements of this hobby? Well, we will guide you through some places, take you around the world on a bicycle in order to collect some of the most beautiful flowers you will ever see.

One of the places that we recommend, is Holland. It is well known that Holland has some of the most beautiful fields of tulips which bloom at the beginning of Spring, more exactly from late March until the second week of May. Some of the best-known bulb fields are located behind the North Sea dunes, between the cities of Leiden and Den Helder. Other bulb fields are situated near Enkhuizen and in the province of Flevoland.

Holland is one of the most bicycle-friendly countries in the world. Due to its flat landscape, mild climate, short distances and wonderful infrastructure, more than 32,000 kilometres of bicycle paths are available for visitors throughout the country. Those who are interested can opt for one of the countless organised bicycle tours or make their own with the help of the cycling route planner. Visitors don’t need to worry about bringing a bicycle on the trip because there are plenty of places where bicycles can be rented.

The next place we have picked which we think is perfect for bicycling surrounded by entire fields of flowers is Namaqualand. Situated in South Africa, this is considered to be one of the top tourist spots in Cape Town. The Namaqualand is situated roughly 5 hours north of Cape Town. What, at first glance, appears to be a wilderness of semi-desert and dusty plains with dramatic mountains in the background, suddenly transforms, as if in a painting, into a pageant of flowers. With over 4,000 different species of plants, every year surprises you more and more with different combinations, different shapes, sizes and selections.  You can already witness evidence of flowers even in Cape Town, and Postberg, which gives a taste of the real show which actually begins with a series of drives that centre on the towns of Garies, Springbok, Kamieskroon and Port Nolloth, way up the N7. In order to take and appreciate your trip to its fullest we recommend checking out some prearranged cycling routes which are perfect for first time visitors.

Arkansas, USA, in another great place to travel in order to explore entire fields of flowers. Almost 1,000 miles of highways have been designed to be flower friendly and the AHTD has also reduced mowing and limited the application of herbicides on the routes to encourage floral growth. These actions have lead to some of the most beautiful landscapes you will ever see. The AHTD have provided a map of flower routes in order to provide the necessary information for those who would like to view some of the most gorgeous places. These routes can be traveled by car or bicycle, but we would highly recommend bicycle because this way you could see some of the most beautiful sites and take great and memorable photos.

When looking for some scenic bicycle routes, a little search can go a long way, that’s why we suggest searching a bit before planning your trip. So take advantage this spring, try something new, get out of the house and take in of all the nature’s beauty.
